Getting FIT: More than a New Year's Resolution

Monday, January 21, 2013

January is a month for new beginnings. Americans flock to the gym in droves, hopeful to reinvent their lives. This is a good thing, until Valentine’s Day hits, and fitness seekers trade in their motivational impulses for the couch and a candy bar! Do these New Year’s Resolutions sound familiar to you?

Getting FIT is about more than making or breaking a fitness goal; it’s a purpose-centered framework to address the whole person. If you've undertaken a physical fitness goal in 2013,  consider the benefits of becoming the-best-version-of-yourself in every aspect of life!

FIT was born out of a curiosity to understand how people find their place in life—good or bad, intentional or careless. In my book, I touch on stories of those who’ve found FIT, those who’ve lost FIT, as well as those who are still looking for it.

New York Times best-selling author Matthew Kelly knows the need for supporters, coaches and home teams to build something of lasting value. He explains why FIT is needed in partnership with others for success:

"We spend a lot of time and energy obsessing over how we can become better as individuals. This is good. Personal excellence is a critical component to a fulfilling life. But you can only get so far on your own."

As a partner in FIT, Matthew asks three crucial questions to help assess your current state:

1. How FIT are you?

2. How FIT is your team?

3. What are you going to do about it this week?

Stretch the limitations you’ve placed on your achievements before! FIT people with unrestricted dreams who work toward a cooperative goal reach their highest levels of achievement when barriers are removed. In my book, I'll address both individuals and organizations. Essentially, the two are interchangeable, since individuals always need eachother, while organizations always need the right people. This sharing of meaningful labor fuels Fully Integrated Teams.
